THE
ATTICUS
PARTNERSHIP
"I try to give 'em a reason, you see. It helps folk if they can latch onto a reason."
Harper Lee, To Kill a Mockingbird.

Organisations want their teams to be more productive, yet - here's the rub - they want them to do it with the same resources. They may use tried and tested methods to get there; strategic planning, goal setting, perks and bonuses, but here at The Atticus Partnership, we believe there are better ways to improve performance.

THE DATA
Research published in the Journal of Applied Behavioural Sciences suggested that a workplace focusing on mindful, positive and virtuous practices will be highly successful.

“When organisations institute these practices, they achieve significantly higher levels of organisational effectiveness — including financial performance, customer satisfaction and productivity. The more virtuousness, the higher the performance in profitability, productivity, customer satisfaction and employee engagement.”
Most people are well versed in the effects of a positive attitude on well-being and effectiveness; we are all mindful to some extent and with practice, we can increase both positivity and mindfulness. This will help us clear our mind and allow us to focus on the things most important to us, helping us to become the best version of ourselves every day.

It's all about finding the sweet spot, where positively engaged teams are effective, innovative and productive. We will help individuals, teams and organisations to discover this.

LEADERSHIP is crucial to every organisation; all teams need somebody to look to and to learn from. All leaders have their own style, a product of outside influences, personal challenges and experiences, but whatever their style, a leader must be confident and comfortable to exemplify and stand by the values they hold.

Many people find themselves assigned to leadership roles in which they have no positional authority. The goal here is to get others to willingly cooperate and engage; you can't rely on a team following your directives just because you're the boss.
Great leaders know themselves and have taken time to get to know the people that they work with; they develop strong and effective teams that trust each other to get the job done.

IMPROVEMENT within an organisation is reliant on two things; people and processes. We can improve performance by taking a look at our processes, our people or both. Here at The Atticus Partnership, we firmly believe that the process of improvement happens best when you focus on people first, helping teams to understand the 'why, when, how and who'. If implemented successfully, results can be demonstrated in many areas: increased productivity, improved efficiencies, customer satisfaction, workforce development and increased profit.

In its simplest form, process improvement is just changing the way you do things to meet the needs of your customers. Sometimes, it can feel that a lot of mystery surrounds the process. There are multiple methodologies available and consultants may use jargon when discussing it, however, in reality, there are only a couple simple questions you need to ask yourself:
1) What are you going to do?
2) Why are you doing it?
3) Who are you doing it for?
4) Do you have the tools to do it?
5) Did it work?
Delivering improvements simply and quickly happens best in a jargon free environment, where people have the knowledge, confidence and tools to get things done. Understanding of the 'science' of process improvement is crucial; embedding simple methodologies for use within their organisations is key.

CHANGE is endemic. These days, organisations are continually being forced to adapt because of constant shifts in market conditions, customer expectations, new technologies, financial pressures and competition. How organisations handle this is what makes or breaks their teams. To get it right, they must ask themselves questions about the appropriateness of the strategies and tactics they are employing, then thoughtfully and carefully, re-align their organisation based on these answers.

Change can be hard for both the people tasked with delivering it and those on the receiving end; it is a lot less scary when you're in the driving seat so employing strategies to help you consider the people you need to bring with you along the way will make the journey a lot easier.

RESILIENCE simply described as choosing and learning to control our focus of attention, cannot eliminate life’s pressures but it can be a great way to manage them; practicing mindful thought processes allow us to pay attention to, and see clearly what is happening in our lives.
According to the NHS choices website, being more aware of the present moment can help to reduce stress, increase emotional intelligence and improve relationships; people who are more skilled at working with their minds and mental states perform better at work, benefiting themselves, their colleagues, their clients and their organisations.

Personal mindfulness will help individuals and teams to clear their minds and focus on what is important; it helps people to re-connect with themselves and their purpose, enhancing focus and attention and supporting them to be the best they can be every day.
